7th Meeting of the LIFE CROLIS Project Advisory Board

The first part of the 7th Meeting of the LIFE CROLIS Project Advisory Board was organized in two workshops held on 16 June and 1 July 2026. The workshops were dedicated to the development of the national Land Cover layer for the reference year 2020. In addition to the members of the Advisory Board, the workshops were attended by renowned European experts in land monitoring and remote sensing, including Mr. Steffen Fritz, PhD from the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Austria, and Prof. Martin Herold, PhD from the GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), Germany. Representatives of the Faculty of Geodesy, University of Zagreb, also participated and presented the updated methodology. These workshops simultaneously served as the final workshops for fine-tuning the system developed under Project Action C1.

LIFE CROLIS Methodology Presented at the EEA/JRC LULUCF Workshop 2026 in Copenhagen

The EEA/JRC LULUCF Workshop 2026 was held on 27 and 28 May 2026 in Copenhagen. It was organized by the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (JRC). The main theme of the workshop was the transition to higher-tier methodologies for reporting greenhouse gas emissions from the LULUCF sector, support for carbon removal certification (CRCF), the use of models and tools for future reporting, and the exchange of national experiences. As part of the workshop, the Croatian methodology for developing a historical time series of land cover changes based on sampling was presented.

LIFE CROLIS at the GDi Solutions Conference 2026

The LIFE CROLIS project and the establishment of ARKOD+ were presented at the GDi Solutions Conference 2026, held on 23rd April 2026 in Zagreb. This was a regional professional conference organized by the Croatian company GDi, which specializes in GIS, digital twins, ArcGIS, and smart infrastructure management. The conference focused on geospatial technologies (GIS), digital twins, artificial intelligence (AI/GeoAI), and the digital transformation of infrastructure.

Presentation of Data Sampling Methodology for a Historical Time Series

At a workshop held on 31 March and 1 April 2026, mathematical models for defining samples for the development of a historical time series of land use and land cover (LULC) data were presented and discussed. In addition to Croatian experts, the workshop was attended by Dr. Peter Weiss from the Austrian Environment Agency.

Croatian Forests and EKONERG Present LIFE CROLIS Project at HGK ESG Academy

On Tuesday, 10 February 2026, the Croatian Chamber of Economy (HGK) hosted the ESG Academy titled “Sustainable Business Models: Emissions, Carbon Credits and Profit without Greenwashing” in the HGK Assembly Hall. Within the section “Foundations for the Carbon Market and Case Studies”, a joint presentation by Hrvatske šume d.o.o. and EKONERG d.o.o. was delivered under the title: Carbon Storage in Forests and the LIFE CROLIS Project (National Land Information System of the Republic of Croatia).

The second LIFE CROLIS Visibility Event was held on 10 December 2025 at the National and University Library in Zagreb for representatives of state administration, scientific and professional communities, and other interested members of the public.

6th Meeting of the Project Advisory Board

On December 9 and 10, 2025, the 6th meeting of the LIFE CROLIS project Advisory Board was held, together with another meeting and workshop involving additional EU experts, aimed at fine-tuning the concept and data model of CROLIS from project activity C1. The meeting concluded on December 10 with presentations of results at the Second LIFE CROLIS Visibility event at the National and University Library in Zagreb.

LIFE CROLIS Project Workshop – Analysis of EU Regulatory Requirements

On June 9th, 2025, a workshop of the LIFE CROLIS project was held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition, where an analysis of EU regulatory requirements related to the use of spatial data in the field of environmental and climate change monitoring was presented. The analysis was conducted by the project partner institution EKONERG d.o.o., and the workshop was intended for representatives of state administration bodies and other institutions involved in collecting, processing, and submitting spatial data for reporting to EU institutions in the areas of environment, nature, and climate change.

LIFE CROLIS at the EU JRC and EEA LULUCF workshop

On May 6th and 7th, 2025, representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition, along with representatives of partner organizations implementing the LIFE CROLIS project, participated in the LULUCF workshop organized by the Joint Research Centre of the European Union and the European Environment Agency (EEA), focused on improving reporting in the Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) sector.

LIFE CROLIS project workshop (Type 1) held in Zadar

On Thursday, 27th March 2025, the second Type 1 workshop of the LIFE CROLIS project was held ih Hotel Kolovare in Zadar for representatives of local and regional authorities and Croatian experts in the fields of land monitoring, environmental and nature protection, agriculture, and spatial planning.

State Secretary Vuković opened the 5th Meeting of the project’s Advisory Board

On December 10th and 11th, 2024, the joint 5th meeting of the LIFE CROLIS project’s Advisory Board and the first meeting and workshop for fine-tuning the CROLIS data concept and model from project activity C1 is being held, with the participation of three experts from Poland, Slovenia, and Germany. The meeting was opened and the attendees were greeted by Mr. Željko Vuković, State Secretary in the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition.

The Normalized Digital Surface Model of Croatia is available for use

On the State Geodetic Administration website, it is possible to obtain information and submit a request to download the Normalized Digital Surface Model (nDSM) of Croatia. This data can be useful to architects, spatial planners, public officials and employees, surveyors, and the academic community in their daily work.

LIFE CROLIS at the “LIFE Projects Fair”

The LIFE CROLIS project presented its current results at the LIFE Program conference held on September 17, 2024, at the Sheraton Hotel in Zagreb. Around one hundred participants from various sectors attended to learn about the achievements and potential of the LIFE Program in financing the green transition in Croatia.

Requirements for Georeferencing and Digitalization of Spatial Data in the New EU Legislation on Climate, Environment, and Biodiversity

On the second day of the International Conference on Environmental Remote Sensing and GIS (ICERS) held at the National and University Library in Zagreb from July 11 to 12, 2024, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition, as the coordinating beneficiary of the LIFE CROLIS project, presented the results of their work on the development of the National Land Information System in the Republic of Croatia.

Advancing Land-Cover Classification in Croatia: Implementation of a Pilot Project for ARKOD+ and CROLIS LU Initial Layer Creation

During the first day of the International Conference on Environmental Remote Sensing and GIS (ICERS) held at the National and University Library in Zagreb from July 11 to 12, 2024, Sinergise Solutions Ltd. as developer and the Agency for Payments in Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development, as partner in the LIFE CROLIS project, presented the results of their work on LIFE CROLIS project. This involved presenting the results and experiences gained from the pilot project within the development of the Croatian Land Information System.

Development of the Croatian Land Information System

During the first day of the International Conference of Environmental Remote Sensing and GIS (ICERS) held at the National and University Library in Zagreb from July 11th to 12th, 2024, Ekonerg d.o.o., as a partner in the LIFE CROLIS project, presented the results of their work on the development of the National Land Information System in Croatia.

International Conference of Environmental Remote Sensing and GIS (ICERS)

The International Conference of Environmental Remote Sensing and GIS (ICERS), organized by the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Geodesy, will take place on July 11th and 12th, 2024, at the National and University Library in Zagreb, Croatia. During the conference, three papers developed within the LIFE CROLIS project will be presented.

The LIFE CROLIS project was presented to participants at the “Wood Trade” conference held on July 4, 2024, at the Westin Hotel in Zagreb. The conference was a good opportunity for meeting, conversation, and exchange of experiences with private forest owners and entrepreneurs in the wood processing industry sector.

LIFE CROLIS project presented at the EU Green Week in Brussels

On June 13th, at the Permanent Representation of Portugal to the European Union in Brussels, a conference titled ‘A Path for a Resilient Future’ was held as part of the 2024 European Green Week. During the conference, the LIFE CROLIS project was presented with a ten-minute video within the panel on ‘Governance solutions for integrated intelligent territorial management for energy, soil and water.’

LIFE CROLIS project presented on Days of SDI 2024

On May 28th, 2024, the State Geodetic Administration organized the Days of Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) 2024 at the National and University Library in Zagreb. The conference program included the 14th National Infrastructure for Spatial Information (NIPP) and INSPIRE Day, where the LIFE CROLIS project was presented.

The 3rd Advisory board meeting held in Zagreb

The two-day, third in a row, meeting of the Advisory Board of the LIFE CROLIS project was held on July 3 and 4, 2023 in Zagreb. As part of the meeting, members of the advisory board participated in the presentation of the LIFE CORLIS project at the National and University Library on October 3, 2023, while on the second day of the meeting, numerous technical and professional issues were discussed.
