The 1st European GREEN conference was launched with the aim of exchanging knowledge and connecting scientists and experts and emphasizing the necessity of applying a multidisciplinary approach in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development. Through professional and scientific articles and lectures, all of them are invited to contribute to achieving sustainability and mitigating the consequences of the climate crisis, achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the goals of the European Green Plan. Among them this year was Dr. sc. Vladimir Jelavić from project partner EKONERG d.o.o. whoheld a presentation on “The contribution of the LULUCF sector to climate neutrality and the LIFE CROLIS project” as part of project Action E1.

Ph.D. Jelavić presented the basic structure of EU energy and climate policy and explained the ways in which the European Union comprehensively works to mitigate climate change and adapt to climate change. He emphasized the significant, but still insufficiently known role of the “Land Use, Land Conversion and Forestry” (LULUCF) sector in that policy, warning at the same time about the lack of spatial data and tools necessary for reporting on carbon sinks according to the recently adopted EU legislation within the framework of the initiative ” Fit for 55% – EU Green Transition Plan” (“Fit for 55%)” and the guidance document of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

The European GREEN conference is organized by the International Association of Scientists and Experts for Environmental Protection (IAESP) and the Faculty of Food Technology Osijek with the support of a network of partner institutions. The 1st European Green Conference is the largest gathering of experts in the field of environmental and nature protection, land and climate monitoring after the end of the COVID-19 pandemic in Croatia. In addition to the exchange of knowledge and experience, the Conference proved to be especially useful for networking experts from different institutions and stakeholders from all over Europe.
